Our History

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation (TNF) is a not for profit corporation formed by the Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA) in 1982.The Tennessee Nurses Foundation was founded to provide a mechanism for supporting programs that meet the special needs of TNA members and other nurses in Tennessee.


TNF is governed by a Board of Trust composed of Registered Nurses and community leaders.

General Fund

The General Fund ensures the stability of the Tennessee Nurses Foundation by providing core funding and creates opportunities for new program development.

Memorials & Tributes

Making donations on behalf of others, or in memory of others, is a meaningful way of recognizing your commitment to TNF.


Upon receipt of your memorial donation, we will send a gift card to notify the person or family of your choosing of your thoughtfulness.


Tributes offer an opportunity to recognize a special occasion or event in the life of someone important to you. For example:

Promotion of Nursing Image Program

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation partners with other organizations to accurately portray the professionalism of nursing and to promote a positive image of the profession and nursing.

Memorial Educational Scholarship Program

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation supports the education of nurses who are members of the Tennessee Nurses Association by providing scholarships for those nurses seeking higher education.

Nursing Research Grants

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation provides grants to registered nurses engaging in scientific and other research projects focusing on nursing practice.

Leadership Nursing Program

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for members of the Tennessee Nurses Association to participate in a variety of leadership development programs, including the Leadership Institute for Nursing Excellence, to prepare nurses for an enhanced role in nursing and community involvement. In addition, scholarships for nursing students to attend the TNA and ANA Annual Convention/House of Delegates may be provided.

Tennessee Professional Assistance Program (TNPAP)

The Tennessee Professional Assistance Program provides advocacy, referral, and monitoring services for chemically dependent, psychologically or physically impaired health care professionals, who are licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee; and for students in health professional programs.


Who donates to TNF? Individuals, corporations and other foundations donate to TNF.

Contributions may be restricted to a particular program of your choice or unrestricted to be allocated to a specific area of need at the discretion of the TNF Board of Trust.

Why do we need your donation? TNF is supported entirely by voluntary contributions. It is a not-for-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. Your investment in TNF is an investment in nursing’s future.
