Here’s how to get your continuing education activities approved for credit . . .
The Tennessee Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing education activities and providers by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Continuing education approval is a voluntary process for appraising and granting recognition of a provider or a continuing education activity that meets established standards based on predetermined criteria. Providers or sponsors of continuing education in nursing are eligible to seek TNA approval of their continuing education activities. The TNA Committee on Continuing Education Review serves as the committee to review applications submitted to TNA for approval of contact hours.
A contact hour is a unit of measurement that describes 50 minutes of an organized learning activity that is either a didactic or clinical experience. Welcome, introductions, breaks, and viewing of exhibits are not included in calculation of contact hours. Evaluation is considered part of the learning activity and may be included in calculation of contact hours.
Applications are available from TNA for the following categories of approval:
Continuing Nursing Education Activity – a planned, organized effort, either learner directed or provider directed, designed to accomplish educational objectives. Continuing nursing education activities are assessed for need, planned, implemented and evaluated in accordance with professional education standards, adult learning principles, regulatory and credentialing requirements,
and organizational policy.
The fee schedule for TNA approval of a continuing nursing education activity is based on the number of contact hours. For 1 – 3 contact hours the amount is $75; for each additional contact hour, add $25. The approval period is for two years.
Provider – An individual, institution, organization, or agency responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, financing, record keeping, and quality of nursing continuing education activities. Approval as a provider is recognition of a provider’s capacity to award contact hours for an unlimited number of educational activities during the three-year period of approval. The application fee is $1,500.00 for new or lapsed provider approval and $1,000 for renewal.
