Leadership Nursing

Nursing and leadership are grounded in intertwining attributes. Nurse leaders are visionaries who enable their followers to realize their full potential. Followers come from local communities, schools, and churches as well as healthcare settings, and nurses have unlimited opportunities to assume leadership roles. Through active participation in public policy development, charitable, civic, municipal boards and organizations, nurse leaders can directly impact Tennessee’s communities.
PURPOSE
The purpose of LEADERSHIP NURSING TENNESSEE is to equip professional nurses with leadership skills that are applicable to a larger role of community involvement by providing financial scholarships for individual registered nurses to participate in established leadership programs.
The program goals of LEADERSHIP NURSING TENNESSEE are to:
- Develop current and emerging professional nurse leaders from across the state.
- Expand participants’ knowledge of the community with a focus on socio-cultural, political, economic, and ethical issues.
- Motivate participants to serve as role models of increased involvement in the community.
- Establish a continuing statewide network of nurse leaders.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Tennessee Nurses Foundation Scholarship Committee will award tuition funds to individual registered nurse applicants for established leadership programs. The leadership program may be local, regional, statewide, or national.
PARTICIPANTS
Participants in the program will be members of Tennessee Nurses Association, practicing in Tennessee, who demonstrate leadership qualities with a commitment to professional growth, advancement of the nursing profession, and development of public policy.
RESPONSIBILITY
Upon completion of the leadership program, the participant will submit a written report to the Tennessee Nurses Foundation Board of Directors and may be requested to make a presentation.
