About TNA: TNA Structure

Overview

The Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA) has 11 Districts, six Councils, three Task Forces, 10 Committees, and one Commission. 

TNA Districts

A district association is an officially recognized group that meets the qualifications and responsibilities as defined by TNA’s bylaws. A district association: 1) serves a clearly defined geographic area; 2) has bylaws that govern its members and regulate its affairs which are congruent with those of TNA; 3) has stated purpose and functions congruent with those of TNA; 4) maintain membership that meets the qualifications in the TNA bylaws, unrestricted by considerations of nationality, race, color, creed, religion, handicap, lifestyle, sex, or age; and 5) is entitled to services from TNA as defined by the TNA Board of Directors.

TNA Councils

TNA Councils are composed of TNA members organized around commonly identified clinical or functional interests as provided for in the TNA Bylaws. The purposes of TNA Councils are to: 1) collaborate and interact for professional growth of the members; 2) establish peer review as appropriate; 3) provide continuing education; 4) implement standards of practice; 5) identify and recognize practice expertise; 6) identify and address ethical and political issues; and 7) provide practical expertise to TNA/ANA staff.

TNA has the following six Councils:

Advanced Practice 
Direct Care 
Forensic Nursing 
Nurse Entrepreneurs 
Nursing Administration & Education 
Nursing Informatics 

TNA Task Forces

TNA Task Forces are created on an “as-needed” basis. These are  temporary groups, consisting of experts and specialists, formed for analyzing, investigating, or solving a specific problem. TNA currently has the following two task forces:
